Exactly one year ago, Jaime Mintun returned home from a
failed business opportunity in Florida.
She was broke, homeless, and with absolutely no idea what she was going to do
next.
Like many copywriters, Jaime had been struggling to make ends meet every
month. So, she jumped onto a get rich quick scheme that turned into a get poor
quick disaster.
Frightened and desperate, Jaime started looking for a job…
any job, anywhere, with anyone who would hire her. Instead of a job, Jaime got
her life back and a future that has no limits.
Within 90 days from the time Jaime went online to search for
jobs, she catapulted her income to $10,000 per month as an SEO copywriter and
consultant, and has maintained that pace each and every month since.
How Jaime
accomplished this magical feat will surprise you. What will surprise you even
more is just how easy it is for anyone with decent copywriting skills to do
exactly as Jaime has done.
This puts AWAI students in a powerful position. Most
copywriters won’t have your skills, so when it comes to vying against others
for projects, you’ve got a distinct advantage. You know what works and what
doesn’t.
SEO Copywriting Versus Direct Response Copy
AWAI students are remarkably prepared to strike it rich in
the field of SEO copywriting. SEO knowledge (Search Engine Optimization) is a
miniscule part of the field of SEO copywriting. By far the biggest chunk of the
business has to do with two things AWAI students know well:
Writing effective sales copy; and,
Understanding the entire sales process
You know what brings people in the door and you know how to
close. It turns out that the same principles you’re learning at AWAI apply to
writing copy for the Web. The only minor addition is this thing called Search
Engine Optimization.
The truth is that I could probably teach you all you need
to know about SEO in a two or three hour class. It’s that simple.
But the fact that the majority of web sites have poorly written
copy (to put it mildly) means that there is an enormous market ripe for the
picking. And guess who gets to do the picking?
Jaime didn’t know how easy it was going to be until she
started her search. Businesses are dying for help with their web sites. First,
they are clueless about how the search engines work to get traffic to their web
sites. Second, their web sites read like boring brochures. There’s no life – no
spark or energy to their copy.
The one place you’d never think to look for work
At some point these businesses figure out that they’re
missing out on tons of potential new business from the Internet, so they look
to hire a “web person.” This usually means “someone with SEO knowledge.” They
often don’t even consider the copy until someone (you) points out that
conversion of traffic to sales is at least as important as getting the visitor
to the front door.
But where do these companies advertise for help?
The newspaper? Not any more.
Online job sites? Too expensive.
Employment agencies? Forget about it.
They go to Craig’s List. You know… the place you go to look
for a used couch you can put in your remodeled basement for the kids. Yes, real
companies look for real people to hire on Craig’s List.
That’s where Jaime went, first to simply look for a job.
Since many of these jobs were in different parts of the country, Jaime asked if
they’d consider a contractor instead of an employee. To her surprise, almost
everyone said they would.
Now, because Jaime knows SEO and is a copywriter, she could
offer them a bundled service that included consulting, SEO and copywriting for
their web sites. This of course leads to direct response marketing pieces
because they like her work.
What Jaime has found, though, is that it’s sometimes tough
keeping up with all the details of Internet marketing. Plus, there’s far more
work out there than she can handle on her own. In order to make her life
easier, Jaime has surrounded herself with like-minded consultants and
copywriters.
The network of peers she’s formed has helped her to take on
more work, subcontract out some, and pass on extra work to her peers who might
have different interests or skill sets. What’s resulted from these
relationships is a “Consortium” of people who share tools, tips, ideas, and
advice, making everyone a little stronger – and richer.
There’s a ton of SEO Copywriting work to be had. We have
what…. maybe 10 gazillion business web sites out there? And 2/3 of those are in
desperate need of good SEO copywriters.
So what are you waiting for?
